It’s April and the vines have begun to shoot in the Penedès. This is the first sign of the vines’ activity as the first shoots begin to form the canes, leaves and the future grapes.
A curiosity of the budbreak phase is that as the plant’s sap rises, we can see a transparent liquid seep from the pruning cuts. As it drips off it causes a curious phenomenon we call “the vine’s tears”.
